Caring For Your Electronic Cigarette,
How to Keep the Vape Experience in Mint Condition

Just like any other gadget electronic cigarettes require a certain amount of care and attention in order to always deliver the best experience, they can't self-clean and of course of time certain parts will wear out and need replacement no matter how much you look after them. At Vapetime we consider keeping all the parts clean, ensuring you don’t get e-liquid in the battery threads and charging your battery properly to be the most important aspects for a consistently excellent vape.

Keeping your e-cig clean, cartomizer / atomiser threads and contact points care.

An e-cig is made up of a few individual parts depending on your setup these usually include the battery and
cartomiser or atomiser. Keeping these parts clean is of utmost importance as any liquid that leaks from a carelessly filled cartomiser into the battery threads and the point of contact between battery and cartomiser can kill the battery.

Especially in the case of automatic batteries that don’t require you to press and hold a button to deliver the vapour, this kind of mistake can cost you a possibly substantial investment in a great battery and getting a new one online can take a day or two. If not more between order and delivery, not a happy thought when all you want is a quick hit.

The main thing to take from this is that you must be careful when filling your cartomiser or atomiser, always follow the guidelines set by the manufacturer. If you should accidently overfill an atomiser or cartomiser use a dry cloth or tissue to wipe away all traces of liquid on the threads and the tip of the atomiser or cartomiser.

To be sure we recommend you put the cartomiser or atomiser to your lips and blow gently to force out any excess liquid to ensure that there isn’t any left that might leak through after you have attached it to the battery.

It is also a good idea to make sure there isn’t any dust or liquid in the battery threads before attaching, this is something people often overlook and can be disastrous for your battery.

If you do find liquid or dust in the battery threads it’s a good idea to push a lint free cloth or tissue into it and gently soak up any liquid or dust, gently twist the tissue to make sure both the threads and contact point are completely dry and have no traces of dust or anything else where the atomiser or cartomiser and battery make contact, electrical current passes through these points and we can stress the importance of keeping them clean and clear of debris and obstructions.

Even if your contact points are completely clear after a perfect refill we recommend you periodically unscrew the cartomiser or atomiser to make sure traces of liquid haven’t leaked through, better safe than sorry!

Battery Charge levels and length of charging

Batteries are an often misunderstood product, people very often leave them charging way past their fully charged time not realising how much this shortens their lifespan.

E-cig batteries are no exception to this rule and a lot of care should be taken to keep an eye on their charge cycle. Depending on the type, voltage and power of each battery you will need to charge them at different times as they last anything from 2-20 hours depending on how much you use them. If you don’t charge them properly don’t be surprised if your vape is cut unnaturally short by the battery’s dying charge time due to careless charging.

Most batteries automatic or manual have an LED that will blink repeatedly when they run out of charge this is the ideal time to charge, (avoid the temptation to charge a battery that is halfway down as they will not charge full and this will also shorten their lifespan), when this occurs set them up to charge and always charge them fully, this means leave them attached to the charger until it indicates that they are fully charged.

Joyetech chargers for example have an LED on them which changed from red to green when the battery is charged and ready for use, this usually takes no more than two hours, so be mindful of this time and don’t leave the battery on for any longer than that as doing so over time will shorten the battery’s lifespan and substantially reduce your vaping time between charges, it’s a good policy not to leave your battery unattended while it is charging something that is made a lot easier these days given that most e-cig chargers are USB compatible allowing you to charge them from a wide array of charging point up to and including your pc or laptop.

An important point that is raised in blogs and forums is that carrying your electronic cigarette in the same pocket as a mobile phone can drain your battery, we haven’t confirmed this ourselves but there is a certain logic to it as mobile phone batteries carry a strong magnetic field and this can conceivable have an effect on your e-cig battery, so it’s something to be mindful of as a precaution.
